“Learn something new every time”

For many years, the name of .DOC has been associated with writing manuals and helptexts for a wide variety of software applications. What is less well known is that we also write pieces for the press. At first sight, perhaps, two unconnected activities. But that’s not really true, say Marcel and Lex, the writers at .DOC.

“We’re both very inquisitive by nature. We like to find out how things work and then write about them clearly,” says Marcel. “One day we might have to work out how a software application works, and the next day we might have to write a story for a client about the reorganisation of a company. And in both cases you can only explain it properly if you understand it yourself.”

Inspiring

Fifteen years ago, the City Council of The Hague was one of .DOC’s first customers. Lex was commissioned to edit the monthly internal newsletter for the Council’s Department of Spatial and Economic Development. And since then, .DOC has written articles on all kinds of subjects for all kinds of customers. “You learn something new every time,” says Lex. “You visit new organisations, big and small, and meet new people with interesting stories to tell. You see how they work, what motivates them and what kinds of solutions they come up with. And that can often be very inspiring.”
